Before
Surgery
Prior to surgery,
a complete medical history is taken to evaluate the general health
of the patient. Then Dr. Galoob will take photos and discuss the
patient's reasons for wanting surgery. Dr. Galoob will use a model
of the nose to describe what will be reduced or augmented and
what should be left alone. It is important to understand this
procedure and to agree with Dr. Galoob on the approach to be used.
Preoperative
instructions may include the elimination of certain drugs that
contain aspirin in order to minimize the possibility of excess
bleeding. Antibiotics may be prescribed to prevent infection.
The Procedure
Rhinoplasty
is can be performed using either sedation or general anesthesia
and may be performed in Dr. Galoob's AAAHC accredited (www.aaahc.com
) office surgical suite or in another local surgical facility.
Most procedures last from one to three hours. Incisions are hidden
internally or at the base of the nostrils which is very inconspicuous
after healing.
Following
Surgery
After the
procedure, small tissue-like strips are placed into the nose to
absorb any drainage. These delicate strips will remain in place
for 24 hours and are removed in the office without discomfort.
Bruising and swelling, particularly under the eyes, may last 10
to 14 days. Following the removal of the bandages, the new shape
of the nose will be apparent, although subtle swelling, particularly
at the base of the nose and at the tip, will gradually fade over
the next several months. Final healing and appearance can take
as long as a year. Most patients can return to work within a week
to 10 days. Patients have minimal discomfort after the procedure,
with most patients classifying it as a 1-3 on a scale of 10.
